Jack Murtha joined the fraternity of parents with kids enduring congenital heart defects upon the diagnosis of his first child, Katie. With no medical background, he learned as much as he could about Katie's condition and, perhaps more importantly, caring for an acutely sick child. He chronicled his daughter's life as he experienced it in his first book, The Hunny Bunny: A Memoir.

Born and raised in Connellsville, a small town on the Youghiogheny River in southwestern Pennsylvania, Jack joined the Air Force after graduating from the University of Pittsbugh at Johnstown. He subsequently earned an MBA from Auburn University, an ALM from Harvard University, and a law degree from Notre Dame.

Jack, his wife, Krista, and their daughters, Elizabeth and Hannah, live in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. He has served in the Air Force and Air National Guard for more than twenty years.
